Galeria Catharsis is delighted to announce that French born - Queensland-based artist Christine Maudy, will be exhibiting her latest body of work entitled Del Cielo a la Tierra, throughout June and July 2008 an exhibition comprising abstract paintings. The exhibition will be officially launched on Friday 20th of June at 1900 and the artist will be in attendance.
Christine interprets the landscape as an ‘open’ medium where personal references and memories are submerged to create colorist harmony. Her works are narrative with soulful themes of journey, discovery and placement. They do not only depict abstract reminiscences of places seen, they embrace the beauty and the fragility of the natural world and the poetics of everyday. They evoke the sense of endless space, capture "sky and earth" and invite the viewer to stay still for a moment in a quiet inner place.
Christine' s abstract compositions mirror shapes and colors of the natural elements. They come alive in a beautiful balance between fluidity and careful geometric composition. Their surfaces shine and radiate, transmitting an energy which at times culminates into turbulence. The elements change substance, water and sky merge, shapes floats to tell us a story of time and place as in “Sometime somewhere" or "Le chemin des pensees". Just beneath the surface deeper layers reveal traces of hidden structures, thick layers of paint mixed with sand and collage.
Christine creates rich textures, muted tones with an uncanny depth of space. Her expressive landscapes, always earthy, capture natural colors - from aqua blues to fiery reds and ochres.
“Nature is often at the core of my inspiration. I am so often struck by the power and the magical interactions of colors. Their potency
symbolizes life's intensity and gives me a strong feeling of belonging. I am continually challenged by the concept of moving into stillness, by painterly depiction of energy versus contemplative serenity."
Christine has been traveling extensively for the last 20 years. Her sensitive and expressive paintings breathe the passion of those who pace our planet up and down to see, understand and bear witness. In the last 6 years, she has had 15 solo and some 60 group exhibitions. She shows regularly in Australia and overseas, notably in Canada, Hong Kong, Dubai and in Spain where she will have her third solo in May 2008. Her work, documented in catalogues and art reviews, has a strong contemporary feel that makes it speak in all languages.
