Christine Maudy celebrates 20 solo exhibitions with
‘Imprints’ - a reflection on life, search, opportunities and change
Prolific contemporary abstract painter, Christine Maudy (www.christinemaudy.com), will soon celebrate a milestone anniversary - her 20th solo exhibition - when her new exhibition ‘Imprints’ shows at the Promenarts Gallery, Balmain, from 14 May–14 June 2009.
A French-Australian artist, who has shown extensively throughout Australia and around the world, including France, Hong Kong, Italy, Spain, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates, Christine’s stunning and inventive use of lines and texture make her abstracts exceptionally powerful and provoke a strong sense of peace and tranquility within the viewer.
This unique style has resulted in substantial critical acclaim for Christine over a relatively short period. Her work continues to garner interest nationally and internationally and is in numerous private and corporate collections worldwide.
Christine’s latest collection, ‘Imprints’, explores human life and the natural environment, their mutual fragility, their stories and the traces they leave behind.
“For me, painting depicts my inner experience and involvement with the mysteries of nature and form, expressed in colour, texture, lines, space and light. It reflects the passing of time, of impermanence and change and allows me to explore my own language in a space where I feel free,” said Christine.
“Nature is often at the core of my inspiration. Its potency symbolizes life's intensity and gives me a strong feeling of belonging,” said Christine. “’Imprints’ does not talk only about places visited, it is a reflection on life, search, opportunities and change. I am continually challenged by the concept of moving into stillness, by painterly depiction of energy versus contemplative serenity."
Christine uses a variety of mixed materials and often starts her paintings with a layer of collage, sand and impasto before developing the work with subtle layers of intermixed colours in acrylic, oil and glazing.
Christine’s compelling abstracts possess stunning lyrical and reflective qualities. Her distinctive style creates paintings which depict a continuous journey with no itinerary. She uses the sensuous, expressive flow of paint, line drawing and colour to mirror her own experiences, to explore her relationship to this land and to this world and to evoke intense emotions.
