These works are the results of my ongoing travels between Germany and Western Australia. They reflect my deep feeling of belonging to Australia. Living at the beach combined with my intense longing to travel into the Australian landscape, the two works depict my journeys from the coastline to the inner desert, from sandy beaches to the red dust.
Longing and Belonging 1
Nine types of different outback sand, all found in their own places and re-embedded in beeswax. These traces of my journey into the red interior of Western Australia – the rusty wire frame found at a homestead - are the result of my desire to be connected with the timelessness and the energy of this ancient landscape.
Longing and Belonging 2
Nine types of sand from different beaches embedded in beeswax and framed with a rusty wire found on an empty block. My home beach in Western Australia surrounded by eight distinct memories of endless beaches. A landscape open and wide, strong and ancient reverberating like the outback, but through colour and light creating a totally different appearance.
